Guides & Advice

Builder gel or gel polish: which is right for your nails?

Both builder gel and gel polish provide a glossy, long-wearing finish, but they have different purposes depending on the condition of your nails, the finish you want and how you like to maintain them.

What is gel polish?

Gel polish is applied in thin cured layers to provide colour and shine with a lighter feel. How long it wears varies from person to person depending on lifestyle and nail condition.

What is builder gel?

Builder gel is a thicker product that adds structure, supporting the natural nail. It can be useful when nails bend or break easily, or when you are trying to grow your natural nails out. It does not, however, biologically repair or strengthen the nail itself.

Which should I choose?

Gel polish is usually the right choice if you have naturally stronger nails and want a lighter colour finish. Builder gel may suit if you want added structure. We always look at your nails first and recommend based on their actual condition.

Can nail coatings cause damage or sensitivity?

As with any nail coating, problems can arise from over-filing, accidental skin contact, inadequate curing, picking at the product or incorrect removal. Please tell us if you have previously experienced itching, swelling, blistering or lifting. We do not apply coatings over infected, inflamed or visibly damaged nails.

How long do appointments take?

  • Gel-polish manicure — approximately 60 minutes£38
  • Builder-gel manicure — approximately 75 minutes£45
  • Gel polish for toes£38
  • Full gel-polish pedicure£48

How should I care for my nails between visits?

Regular cuticle oil, wearing gloves for wet or abrasive tasks, and resisting the urge to pick at your nails will all help. Contact us if you notice lifting, discomfort or any reaction, and always return to us for professional maintenance or removal rather than removing anything yourself.
